She bravely defied the warnings of others— and accepted Jesus.
Before she cursed Jesus; now she embraces Him
Supheap’s first encounter with a Christian came while she attended a free English study. This young Cambodian, whose name means “gentle young girl,” was invited to the study by a friend, and was not expecting to hear the Gospel shared by a Bible League-trained Christian.
“When I had heard about the sharing of Jesus in our village, I cursed at the Christians,” she recalls. “But then I heard the Christian’s testimony and listened to him share the Gospel.”
On the way home, Supheap was stricken with a terrible headache. She’d been cursed by spirits for listening to the Gospel, some people in her village told her. But Supheap was not afraid. “I continued to listen to the Christian, and I began to believe in Jesus,” she says.
In brave defiance, Supheap decided to accept Jesus as her Savior. “I felt very differently after that—my life was changed,” she explains. “I had not been an obedient daughter, but now I wanted to be.”
This desire, plus her love for Jesus Christ, led Supheap to ask the Christian to share Christ with her family. Now, she rejoices, five members of her family have also accepted Christ. They are all studying the Bible together—using materials provided by faithful Bible League partners—and recognize the new blessings in their lives.
“Before, our family was victimized by local thieves who stole our belongings and destroyed any shoes and clothes left outside our home,” Supheap says. “But now we can leave our bicycles outside without fear of someone stealing them.
